Collecting + McCoy

Three years ago we were moving to California and I was sorting and getting rid of things...I was thinking my life in California was going to be a life with less "stuff."  Soon after arriving I started reading blogs and my passion for collecting gained momentum.  I am so happy I did not part with my collection of McCoy pottery.
I have several pieces in other colors as well, but I really love the white.  Maybe it's because with white you really notice all the lines, the details or maybe it's how much I love the way it looks against the black wall.
My friend Elizabeth and I have been going to flea markets almost every Sunday.  I had no idea there were so many in Southern California.  I've started a few new collections and added a few pieces to some older collections as well.   More on those later, but what do you collect and how do you display it?

  2. Love the pottery! I collect silver napkin rings..old ones, preferably with initials on them (not mine). The only time they are displayed is when we use them.

  3. Hello Annie:
Your collection of McCoy pottery looks absolutely wonderful and we love all those clearly defined sweeping lines. And how splendidly you have arranged the items for the images alongside the books and with the twigs and box, we think, leaves.

Alas, we are far too eclectic in our tastes for our own good, flitting with butterfly minds from one thing to another.

  4. I adore McCoy! For many, many years I collected milk glass and displayed it proudly all over my home. I have held onto the finer, more rare pieces (esp urns because I can't help but adore anything in that shape!) but purged a lot of the more common, not as swoon worthy pieces. My style has changed/developed over the years and while I am content with things now, you never know when I might have the urge to use some of those pieces again!
    Stunning photos!

  5. Yay, Annie! Your posts have come back.

McCoy is one of my favorites too because you can still collect it without breaking the bank. And white is my favorite too. Your first photo with black and white and green and spring-like flowering twigs is genius.

  6. I love collecting McCoy pottery and have done posts on my pottery and vintage planter collections. My pieces are colored, mostly green, but I love the white pieces. In your first photo, my favorite piece is that tall vase with the handles, second from the right. Fabulous!

  7. I love your McCoy pottery!! I only have three pieces...wouldn't exactly say I collect it. I bought a bowl years ago but didn't know what McCoy pottery was then. I bought a white pitcher at an antique store a couple of years ago that I loved. My son accidently broke it throwing the dog's ball but I glued it back and still have it displayed in a high place. ;) I also found a small bowl at an estate sale. I really love ironstone though. :) Thanks for sharing your collection. :)

  10. Love your McCoy collection next to your chalkboard wall - and the flowering branches - so gorgeous! I actually collect white vases too - ceramic and ironstone. I love the way they look next to a colorful wall - and I get especially excited when I find footed vases and compote bowls! I love it when I can find a pair! My collections include globe banks, vintage silhouettes, anchors, the list goes on!!! I love a flea market and often find some awesome vases at the Goodwill - the cheaper the find the more exciting it is!

  18. Annie,
Love McCoy! I have a vase that was a gift that I adore. The white is really perfect with the black and so many things right now.

    Love your black books too.

  20. Annie, you've set up another gorgeous vignette and photographed it beautifully. Your McCoy looks perfect against the black.

Mind if I ask about the twins book? I can't quite make out the author. I have identical twin girls and am always looking to read up on the subject. Speaking of which, I assume you've seen the latest National Geographic?

  21. I love McCoy Pottery and have a few pieces myself, but it's my friend Karin who has the most amazing collection. See (some) of it here http://www.binkandboo.net/2010/12/favorite-finds-guest-series-karin-grow.html

Gosh I am not sure what I collect. A little bit of this a little bit of that. Of course I love vintage textiles, but I also find myself slowly starting to collecting silver cream and sugar sets. I like to put succulents in them.

  25. I enjoyed your post so much. And like many of the others... love McCoy and also Roseville and even Hull. My collection of pottery began when I inherited my grandmother's pieces. So much fun and especially special because of the memories.

  27. The way you've displayed your pottery is just beautiful. I, too, am a collector of McCoy (and other American pottery). Most of mine is green, but I love white as well. Like you, I could never give it up!

  28. I adore McCoy pottery and my favorites are the whites. I love your horn-like pieces. I have some similar ones that I have stuffed with old tarnished silverware. They come in handy for all sorts of things.

  29. Such a pretty display! I've never really given McCoy a second look until now...I really want a few pieces.
