are you a list maker?

I have always made lists.  Just the other day my daughter and I were talking about this habit.  We both confessed that sometimes we add something to the list that we have already accomplished and immediately cross it off.  What's that all about?  I'm almost afraid to know the deeper meaning behind it.  The list above was done my daughter at age 5.  It was our first summer in New Canaan, Connecticut.

                                                                      go to the beach
                                                                      eat dinner
                                                                      catch fireflies
                                                                      take a bath
                                                                      get our jammies on
                                                                      watch a movie
                                                                      go to bed

I usually start out making a list using lined notebook paper.  I list things I need to do, errands to run...all the usual stuff and then I fold it into quarters so my lists are organized by stops I'll be making.  I know I could do this on my iphone, but there's something about physically making the connection to writing it down with a sharpened #2 pencil and then the act of crossing it off.  No---I do not cross off my grocery list items.

For years I used Rhodia notebooks that I purchased at Kate's Paperie.  Then we moved here and I noticed Target even carried them for a while, but now I just use something I like--that I can find in my bag and try not to be too high maintenance about my notebooks.

So do you make lists?  and if yes, have you made the switch from paper and pencil to your electronic devices?

  1. What a cute post! Yes, I am a list maker and sometimes with pen and paper and more often I quickly type it up on the computer (neater and faster). I use those same cute little notebooks when I am working with clients so everything I write down stays connected in one place. I want my list to sound like the one your daughter wrote ... catch fireflies, take a bath, get my jammies on - ah that sounds wonderful!

  3. I do make lists...
and instead of crossing things off
I simply make a new list leaving out the items that were already done!

The grocery shopping cannot be done without a list...if I forget it i go back to get it!

  5. Yep, definite list maker here, especially as I seem to have the memory of a goldfish these days... Most of mine (shopping, packing, chores) are now recorded on my phone, although there's something nice about the old pad & pen.., you may have inspired me to switch back. :)

  6. I'm so not a list maker. I should be, but I'm not. Your daughter's list is adorable. She sounds like such a sweet girl.

  8. Annie,

    Thanks for following @ Ideezine.blogspot.com

Regarding lists yes I do... and love doing it too! I use to use paper & pen/pencil and now I use my iPhone recorder, and iPhone notes.

When I take notes while working with clients I leave a copy in my files and I take a picture of the notes to have an additional copy with me at all times. It works for me every time.

  9. I've kept a to-do book since high school. The collection of them have become like "task diaries" which is a fun way to review my life. :)

  10. I definitely am a list person. Every night before bed I make a list of what needs to be done for the blog/business the next day. It helps me sleep well at night. I keep a calendar beside my computer and mark it there. For me it doesn't work as well to input into my blackberry, I'm old fashioned that way I guess :).

  13. Hi dear friend!
YES, I make lists. I've tried to do it on my Iphone but quickly went back to my old ways of pen and paper. I make the lists to lift the "to do's" off my mind. The tasks never seem so daunting once I've put them on paper...it frees my mind. Crossing the items off is so rewarding.
I even make lists for my husband. He finds it easier to attack the the "home to do's" when I line list them.
    Are we crazy?
Can't wait for you to move back to the East so I can list..."Have lunch with my Annie.."
